Animation is a powerful art form that can be created with a multitude of mediums. In this class, campers will learn the basic principles of animation, watch animated shorts and analyze techniques, practice figure drawing and storytelling, and learn how to design their own characters. Finally, they will learn to create animations of their own, including flipbooks, paper puppets, character rotations, and more. The first week is focused on building these essential skills, and the second week they’ll create their own short film. Students will learn to think both critically and creatively to build a strong foundation in animation!

Cindy Peng is a student at Rhode Island School of Design, who has loved art ever since she was young. After building a strong foundation in traditional techniques like drawing and painting, she developed a passion for animation. She has attended the animation summer programs at Cooper Union and California State Summer School for the Arts, which is held at the top animation school in the country, Calarts. Her work has also been exhibited at Los Gatos New Museum, where it won first place in the animation category. She has extensive experience volunteering and working to teach kids at Enlighten camps and tutoring services, and truly enjoys it. Cindy is excited to share her passion at Enlighten this summer!
